St Thomas' Association Golf Society
We are a friendly Golf Society formed at St Thomas' Association Club in Erdington in Feb' 2000
We welcome new members, the majority of our players are St Thomas' club members, but if new members are not affiliated to the club they are still welcome.
If new members don't have an official handicap, they will play off a handicap of 16 until 3 cards whilst playing with the society have been handed in to the handicap secretary.
The Golf society was formed in Feb' 2000 by golf playing members of St Thomas' and started off with around a dozen members. In the early days most of the games were played on the Birmingham Municipal circuit, now the society has grown to 40 members (2017) and we play all around the Midlands and occasionally even further afield on all types of courses.
Our season mainly comprises of 16 to 18 matches normally playing once a fortnight and always on a Sunday when most people are free, except for Captains Day and our Open Day which are always held on a Saturday.
At least once a year we have a Society European weekend away normally comprising of a 2 nights stay with 3 rounds of golf.
We hold a monthly meeting on the first Fri of every month at 9.00pm in St Thomas' and all members are asked to turn up if possible, although attendance is not compulsary, it does give each member a chance to air any views they have about current or future veunues, events or fixtures.
Annual Charity/Presentation Dance
Once a year we hold a joint Charity/Presentation Dance where all the proceeds go to a local Birmingham Charity. Past Charities have included Acorns, Norman Laud Association, Help for Heroes at The New QE Hospital and the John Taylor Hospice. Since our formation in 2000 we have raised over £25,000 for local charities.
